Open Call – Multi-Person Juggling Training Residency

Circus Factory Cork and Motion Chapel are delighted to announce an exciting collaborative project tailored for jugglers—a five-day training residency featuring a workshop led by Chris Patfield on multi-person juggling.

Objective of the Residency:

This week-long training residency is designed to achieve two primary goals. Firstly, participants will have the unique opportunity to further their skills and delve into the exciting world of multi-person juggling. Secondly, the residency aims to foster connections among ambitious jugglers, providing a platform for collaboration, potential new projects, and the possible formation of new juggling ensembles.

Eligibility Criteria:

This residency is open to jugglers of all levels and any prop. Applicants should have a keen interest in multi-person juggling, be comfortable with passing, and possess a basic understanding of siteswap theory. Bonus points if you’re enthusiastic about creating new performances in collaboration with fellow jugglers.

Residency Details:

Successful applicants will partake in a five-day Multiperson Juggling Workshop facilitated by Chris Patfield at Motion Chapel, Ireland. The schedule includes arrival on the 20th of March (evening), six hours of daily workshops from the 21st to the 25th of March, and departure on the 26th. Accommodation will be provided at Motion Chapel with shared living spaces and meals. Additionally, participants have the option to stay in their vans on-site. A travel stipend of 100€ will be offered.

Workshop with Chris Patfield:

We are excited to offer a 5 day workshop on multi-person juggling with Chris Patfield. The workshop will be 5-6 hours daily, and will be tailored to the group.

About Chris Patfield:

After a degree at ‘The Circus Space’ specialising in Slack Rope and Juggling Chris completed a post-graduate course researching the relationship between juggling and music as part of an MA at the Danshogskolan (DOCH) in Stockholm.

Since 2010 he has worked with the internationally acclaimed Gandini Juggling company with productions: Smashed, Meta, 8 Songs, Akhnaten and Stackats. He has also toured with No Fit State, Stumble dance Circus, Hebrides Ensemble and performed as an Actor/Circus Artist and Stage Fighter in productions at the Royal Opera House in London, The English National Ballet and Glyndbourne.

Chris is an Associate Artist of Gandini Juggling and continues touring his first full length juggling show “Gibbon” by Patfield and Triguero, for which they were nominated for a Total Theater for Dance Award at the Edinburgh international Fringe festival. Together with Francesca Mari they have created ‘Lanciarte’ meaning to ‘throw art’ as a platform to create, produce and promote the art of Juggling. In 2024 he will commence work on his new Solo show with the working Title ‘ About Round’.

Chris has recently worked as an outside eye for new productions by Simple Cypher and Francesca Mari Juggling and has taught at numerous Juggling conventions and Circus Schools around Europe, including the National Centre for Circus Arts (NCCA), Regional Center Des Arts Du Cirque (CRAC) and Stockholm University Of The Arts (DOCH)
